My father fled a large family estate in eastern Germany shortly after WWII, and my mother's family came to the US from Poland. I've lived, studied and worked abroad and I humbly say I know Europe compared to the US. Please stay here! It's an opportunity few will ever have. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to stay in a stately French home handed down (through the matriarchs) for centuries. However, it felt like a lovely stay at the home of a friend who kindly opened their property to us. Treasure it and enjoy it. You will not meet it's equal.
As for the details, the cleanliness was unmatched. The amenities are thoughtful and plentiful. The towels in the modern bathrooms are fluffy (remember you are in France and need to adapt to bathtubs and a hook on the wall for your shower - no curtain!), wonderfully soft linens, every kitchen convenience you may need. We quickly fell into the pleasant morning routine of driving (4 minutes) into town for fresh pastries and other items from the bakery for our breakfast. Our group included children who enjoyed the pool, tennis court and fantastic gardens to explore. We enjoyed relaxing at cocktail hour in the beautiful salons, sometimes playing games all together, enjoying the gorgeous chess board and musing at the paintings and artifacts and exploring whimsical stairways and peaceful views from throughout the chateau. We enjoyed the village of Valogne where we found the most kind residents eager to help us navigate our surroundings. Virginie arranged reservations for our large group at several lovely restaurants for dinners. How amazing to relax in the evening knowing your children are not on their screens but out in the "game room" (in quotes because it was originally part of the horses quarters if I have that right) playing ping pong, foosball, tag, and generally being children. How quickly you can settle into this life! I wish we had booked 2 weeks.
Everything was perfect! Okay maybe I would add another couple of showers for my spoiled American taste... but that's all! I will forever treasure our stay at Chateau Servigny. Thank you to the owners, caretakers, and all who make this experience possible.
Absolutely would stay at Arnaud's place again, and recommend everyone else does as well.
